New Glasses

I went to Vision Express today for a eye test and to get new glasses. My perscription hasn't changed since my last test which is nice, but the cost of thin "reactolite" lenses is a lot! As my eyes are around -8, I wanted to get the thinnest, lightest lenses I could. I also, wanted reactolite ones rather than have to deal with two sets of glasses as I do now. Total cost eye test, lenses and frames cames to about £580! Fortunately Georgina organised new glasses with Vision Express last week and took out their insurance (£20) which also entitled any family member to a 10% discout! So I got £58 knocked off the price :) Now I just have to hope that they are ready for collection before our holiday!

blogillation

From John Kaster:
blogillation is preferring to spend time reading, searching, writing, and commenting on blog entries rather than doing just about anything else on your computer.

BBQ

BBQ yesterday in Croydon with Georgina's friends from her post-natal group. Was interesting to see how the kids have grown in the year or so since we left. We drove down in the morning, socialised all afternoon and then drove home in the evening. I am really tired today though :(

Monty

At work, we have a home-grown cms system that we use to build our websites. Internally it's known as "Monty" as a shortening of "The Full Monty". This came about because it can do everything(!) Also, as a company, we do a lot of "directory" work which are published catalogues of company listings within a particular industry sector.

For our next major project, we are going to the next major version of the CMS system and will be breaking several key concepts in the current one. So today, we were looking for a new name. On a whim, I did a dictionary.com lookup on monty and got this:
/mon'tee/ [US Geological Survey] A program with a ludicrously complex user interface written to perform extremely trivial tasks. An example would be a menu-driven, button clicking, pulldown, pop-up windows program for listing directories.
How can we possibly change it's name now?! The new version will be called "Monty3" :)

Potato Salad

Georgina's been making potato salad this evening and it smells delicious! It's the second batch that she's done and it tastes sooo much nicer that the one from Sainsburys!

Poor mite!

Jon's just fallen out of bed !

Apparently, when Georgina got up there, he was sitting on the floor crying and wondering why he was on the floor...

Note To Self

Don't forget to close newly installed radiator valves before refilling the system...

Update: It appears that the water that was released through the open valve, coupled with a leak, has caused damp patches downstairs in on the walls and ceiling... Fortunately, a quick call to Dad for advice has allayed our fears of structural damage.

Jon's Home!

Jon's home again after his holiday with my parents! According to my mum, he had a good time, especially going on a trip with his Granddad to London. I think he likes trains and buses! He also enjoyed playing with his cousins when they turned up on Tuesday and spent Wednesday with his Grand Aunt Lesley. So he's had a busy time, but I bet he's glad to be back. I'm looking forward to seeing him tonight, even if it does mean that I wont' get a word in edgeways!

BBQ

Jon and I went to Enfield for a BBQ at Jenny's with all the "Yoms". I had a great time meeting up with people I haven't seen since my childhood! Jon seemed to enjoy himself too, though he stayed up very very late as was grumpy this morning. I left him at Mum & Dad's for a holiday, so it' just Georgina, Ben and myself at home and it seems really quiet!

I've started using Bloglines to read all the blogs I keep track of. So far I'm quite impressed that it works so smoothly. Best of all, as it's web based, I can catch up on my reading from work and home :)
