Lost Something?

This morning, Jon couldn’t find his mini car and so started wandering around shouting “Mini! Where are you?” over and over again! Of course the mini never answered and so Daddy was pressed into service to look for it…

So, if you’ve lost your keys, try wandering around the house shouting “Keys! Where are you?” and see what happens!

Not a good day…

…for Jon today. He’s been really tired, overtired almost, and hence mostly miserable. Poor mite. He didn’t even get a good lunchtime nap and ended up screaming for a good while before falling asleep and then waking up a couple of times during his nap time. When we did get him up, he was inconsolable for a good 20 mins and we have no idea why he was so upset.

I’ve just put him to bed now and hopefully he’ll have a nice restful sleep tonight and be his usual chipper self tomorrow.

New Look

I decided to give the site a little bit of a facelift – nothing too fancy, but I feel that it’s a bit cleaner and much less cluttered than before. You may need to do a full reload (control+F5) to get the new CSS styles to show though.

Also, I’ve now got more room in the left hand column on the blog :)

Day Off

Took a day off today. No real reason, just thought that a long weekend would be nice :)

All we’ve done today is look for a greasy-spoon cafe… and we failed. In Croydon, we used to frequent the StarExpress cafe in the centre of town a lot. It does a nice fried breakfast and is very Jon friendly. We want something similar here in Worcester.

We’ve tried the Tesco’s cafe and it’s not up to scratch. The food is very much “pre-cooked” and sitting on warming plates for when you order. It certainly isn’t as nice as a freshly cooked breakfast! Today we had a drive around looking for somewhere and couldn’t find anywhere. Eventually we parked in a carpark and went and looked around the city centre. Again, not a lot to be seen in the way of places that do all-day breakfasts…

We came across a place called “Poppins”. It was not a good experience. The decor was very 70s and the food was not fantastic – definitely not freshly cooked either. It was also quite expensive at ?15 for 2 breakfasts and Jon’s meal. We won’t be going back and so the search will continue…

I Have a Dream

On 28 August 1963, Martin Luther King Jr gave his famous “I have a dream” speech and changed the world. 40 years on, we still have some way to go to reach the ideals he set down.

The Herald Sun has the text of the Full Speech, as does the BBC

Privacy

Do you value your privacy? Do you want adverts targeted at you as you walk past a sign because the sign can tell what you are carrying in your pocket/handbag? Even more helpfully, the sign could also work out if you have a credit/debit card on you. How about someone being able to drive past your house and get a detailed list of all the CDs and DVDs in your house?

RFID tags enable this sort of privacy invasion. They are starting to be trialled now with Tesco & Marks and Spencer leading the way. These tags are a great idea for stock control in warehouses and I can see some potential anit-shoplifting benefits. However, in my opinion, it should be a legal requirement that once the product is sold, the tag should be removed.

notags.co.uk and Watching Them, Watching Us have some interesting information about the issues these tags raise and are far more eloquent than I am…

IIS Woes

I’m having lots of trouble setting up a subdomain in IIS today. I can’t work out what I’m doing differently from the last time I did this, but it’s just not working the way it ought to. The main problem is that it’s picking a default holding page rather than the correct one and I have no idea why as all the settings look right!
