Weekend

This weekend we’re back to the busy social calendar with a party for Jon yesterday and a Baptism for a friend’s children today. It’s a Catholic baptism, which will be a new experience for me as I’ve never been to one before.

Jon really enjoyed his party yesterday though was a bit clingy when dropped him off at Laura’s house. It was the first party he’s been to where we’ve left him there on his own. However, once I had left, he promptly forgot about me as usual :) I took the opportunity to pop into town and get some shopping done and only just made it back in time to collect him!

SWG

Played SWG again last night for the first time in ages. Was a blast as I didnt’ feel like I was on the treadmill to advance my character and just spent the night firing my blaster :)

A Real Writer

Georgina has got a job doing some copy writing for websites on a part time basis. Of course it’s the sort of job she’ll be good at and has the added benefit of being a home-based job. Most importantly, I won’t need to fund here expensive Sims habit :)

150 Years Ago Today

Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
‘Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!’ he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

‘Forward, the Light Brigade!’
Was there a man dismay’d ?
Not tho’ the soldier knew
Some one had blunder’d:
Their’s not to make reply,
Their’s not to reason why,
Their’s but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
Rode the six hundred.

Flash’d all their sabres bare,
Flash’d as they turn’d in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army, while
All the world wonder’d:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro’ the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reel’d from the sabre-stroke
Shatter’d and sunder’d.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro’ the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.

When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wonder’d.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!

Alfred, Lord Tennyson, 1864

Lunch

Janet and Harry are over from the US, and as we don’t get to see them often, we went to my mum’s today for lunch. Of course, so did the rest of the family so we got to catch up with Lesley & Row, Linda & Bill, Anna, Lucy, Jenni and my niece and nephew (Leah and Jack). We really enjoyed it and Georgina picked up some thoughts from Bill about her photography course. Bill’s a very good photographer and I really like his work, especially the black and white shots. We currently have two of his works now and I’m sure we’ll be increasing our collection over the next few years :)

Jon had a really good time with Leah & Jack and was devastated that he had to leave to come home. Ben just seemed bemused at getting handed around all these people!
