Again, Chris Witter sums it up very well.
Photo Album
I’ve just added the five most recent pictures to the photo album main page. Someday I’ll do a proper date ordering of all the pictures to complement the per-category viewing we have now.
Sick
It seems that whenever I talk about myself, it’s always about how ill I am. Today is no exception. Yesterday Ben sicked up both his main meals which was a bit of a worry. He did however sleep ok last night. I was not so lucky. Georgina went out for the evening to watch DVDs with some friends. I thought I’d take the chance to catch up on some sleep and went to bed about 9ish. Fell asleep around 10:30 but was awake again at just gone midnight feeling queasy. The rest of the night was spent oscillating between the bathroom and the bed and I think I got about 2 hours sleep :(
Today really hasn’t been a good day either as we’re both really tired and haven’t given the kids much attention. Georgina slept all morning and I slept all afternoon.
PhotoBlog
I’m putting up photos of the extension work on my Fotothing.
Tree Removal
The tree at the end of the garden has gone! One more task on the todo list sorted. Our garden seems much bigger (until the extension goes up!) and there’s more light.
Building Inspector
The Building Inspector came around today to look at the footings. He’s decided that we have to dig down another half a metre because of the tree at the end of the garden. The weird thing is that the tree is coming out, but we still have to do the additional digging. Not a lot we can do… the Building Inspector is God when it comes to getting a certificate, so what he says goes!
Footings
The footings were dug today. The builder said he’d be here at 8am, and sure enough builders arrived at 8am. The boss man was late – about 8:10, but who cares?! Another skip arrived to join the one that arrived yesterday. The 5 men then proceded to pick up our shed and carry it down to the end of the garden! Paving slabs were then lifted and a digger was brought in to dig holes. They carried on working even thoug hit rained on and off all day and were done by 3:30.
All in all, a good start. Let’s hope it continues in this vein!
Extension
It’s really going to happen! Neil the Builder was around today to pick up the kitchen plans so he can quote on fitting. We also organised for skips to arrive on Friday and a digger on Saturday. The way we are going, we might have a usable extension by the end of April!
Not too well
Whomever said that someone with flu must be bed-ridden clearly didn’t have children. Not that I know that I have flu, but I have most of the symptoms. With Ben and Jon both getting over similar symptoms and so not sleeping well, both Georgina and I are also really tired. Georgina hasn’t yet got ill, and we are really hoping she doesnt!
Anyway, back to the thrust of this post. No matter that I feel really ill, I have children, so I still helped to feed them, change Ben’s nappy, entertain them, etc. when I could yesterday. Going to bed for 24 hours just wasn’t an option. Nurofen is great stuff when it kicks in. It takes about an hour after taking the pills to get the relief and that lasts for about 2 hours. It’s just unfortunate that you then have to wait a bit until you can have some more :( My current strategy is to do the family stuff during the nurofen times and sleep when it’s not providing relief. Seems to work anyway.
It does annoy me a little that it’s taken as a given that mothers are not allowed time off when they are ill whereas fathers are considered to be able to forget about their family whilst ill. I’m not convinced this is the case.
Right Wing
This current Government has to count as the most right wing Government we’ve ever had! Labour panned the Tories when they introduced the right to buy council houses. Now we find that they want to extend the system to allow more people to buy “a stake” in their homes.
It’s sad really. With a Government this right wing, there really is no difference in our main political parties. Not suprising really as most people vote with their wallets and so right wing Governments get into power and stay there longerer. Labour wanted power so badly that they gave up all their distinguishing policies and became a clone of the Thatcher Government. Now the only significant difference between our two main parties is the personality of the leader. From where I’m sitting, neither is compelling. Tony Blair’s arrogance and distain for the public depresses me too much to vote for him and Michael Howard’s attempts to distinguish himself just aren’t working.
