New Glasses

I went to Vision Express today for a eye test and to get new glasses. My perscription hasn’t changed since my last test which is nice, but the cost of thin “reactolite” lenses is a lot! As my eyes are around -8, I wanted to get the thinnest, lightest lenses I could. I also, wanted reactolite ones rather than have to deal with two sets of glasses as I do now. Total cost eye test, lenses and frames cames to about £580! Fortunately Georgina organised new glasses with Vision Express last week and took out their insurance (£20) which also entitled any family member to a 10% discout! So I got £58 knocked off the price :) Now I just have to hope that they are ready for collection before our holiday!

BBQ

BBQ yesterday in Croydon with Georgina’s friends from her post-natal group. Was interesting to see how the kids have grown in the year or so since we left. We drove down in the morning, socialised all afternoon and then drove home in the evening. I am really tired today though :(

Monty

At work, we have a home-grown cms system that we use to build our websites. Internally it’s known as “Monty” as a shortening of “The Full Monty”. This came about because it can do everything(!) Also, as a company, we do a lot of “directory” work which are published catalogues of company listings within a particular industry sector.

For our next major project, we are going to the next major version of the CMS system and will be breaking several key concepts in the current one. So today, we were looking for a new name. On a whim, I did a dictionary.com lookup on monty and got this:

/mon’tee/ [US Geological Survey] A program with a ludicrously complex user interface written to perform extremely trivial tasks. An example would be a menu-driven, button clicking, pulldown, pop-up windows program for listing directories.

How can we possibly change it’s name now?! The new version will be called “Monty3” :)

Potato Salad

Georgina’s been making potato salad this evening and it smells delicious! It’s the second batch that she’s done and it tastes sooo much nicer that the one from Sainsburys!
